Dilemmas&Dreams

We are in a bit of a dilemma. We are torn as to how many eggs to put in after retrieval. R will prob have a fair amount of eggs based on her first scan ( 32 follies without drugs). I want to try two eggs but R is TERRIFIED of having twins. I have waves of fear, the thought of having twins around doesn't bother me, the thought of carrying them to term without complications is what worries me. The other problem is that R only wants two kids. I want two kids but the thought of three doesn't bother me either.  Soooo if we had twins the first time that means that we wouldn't be using my eggs at all. Is your head spinning yet? Our clinic has a 35% rate of twins-that seems a little high. The only couple we know that used the clinic is pregnant with twins. Every time we go to the clinic we walk down the hall lined with pics of multiples and R gets crazy eyes.  Also it feels awful putting two back in hopes only one would make it. It sounds so shitty when you put it that way. I just can't see going through all of this, putting one egg in, and not getting pregnant at all. So what do we do?? How many of ya'll put two in and had/having a singleton? Any thoughts?

On a different note, I had an awesome dream that we did have a baby, a girl. I was holding her and she was nuzzled in my neck and I could smell her. That unforgettable baby smell. I could feel her soft head and her warm wiggly body against mine. It was so amazingly real. I hope it's a premonition rather than just a dream.

  1. I say... Put two in. I feel exactly the same as you do as far as twins. We are putting two in. The only hung that scares me is being able to carry them to term without complications. But if your clinic has a 35% chance of twins try to think of it this way... You have a 65% chane of not having twins. In most cases two are put in an one implants. And R May change her mind... I am sure she will be excited regardless of how many she see's on the US. And I'm sure you two can handle two rug rats. Once your first baby or babies are out of diapers you will want another pregnancy/baby. I made my wife agree that I can have two pregnancies even if we have twins the first time around lol because like R she only wants two. I wouldn't mind three. Goodluck! ......put two in ;)

  2. It is a good idea to base that decision on the quality of the embryos at transfer time. We transfered 2 5AA embryos and are pregnant with one baby. We had 22 great embryos at time of transfer but doctor told us he would guess half of them have genetic abnormalities and wouldn't implant or would miscarry. So that is why we decided to put in 2. If you have lower quality embryos at time of transfer I definately would transfer 2.

  3. As a parent of unexpected twins, having a 3 week old placed with us when we were two weeks from our due date with our son, sent us into the world of twins. At first we were in a state of shock, completely on survival mode. Now they are 5 months and 7 months and I couldn't imagine it any other way. We now have a routine, and it's awesome to watch them interact and grow together. So I vote to put two in, trust me if you have twins you will do just fine!

  4. Awwe that would be tuff but I say go for two! I did an IUI and had two good mature follies drop and so far it looks like only one made it!! :) We also want two little ones so looks like we will be back for another IUI in two years! We actually were hoping for twins so we could be done with IUI's LOL but we are so very glad & grateful that we are having one! Whatever you two chose it will be worth it!!!

  6. Hi there - I'm so glad you found our blog! Congratulations on starting your soon-to-be mama adventure! You'll find many posts about our journey to get pregnant in the earliest posts on my blog if you would like to give them a read. I know for us it was always comforting to read about other TTC experiences. I look forward to following your blog as well. :)

  7. Hopefully your RE will have input on this as well. With our first IVF we were so gung-ho to only put back two and we ended up putting back 3 embryos and bam no preganancy. With the second one we ended up with WAY better embryos so we only transferred two and one sticked! What I am trying to say is that a lot of it depends on the grading of the embryos! Good luck!
